Fridge & Freezer Running Cost Calculator

Find out what a commercial fridge or freezer costs to run. Enter its energy use and your electricity rate, and the calculator shows the cost per day, week, month and year. Comparing two models? Add a second fridge to see how much the more efficient one saves.

How to use the calculator

  1. Find the energy use. Look for a figure in kWh per 24 hours on the spec sheet or energy label. Many of our product pages show it under "Energy use". If you only know the power in watts, switch to "Power (watts)" for a rough estimate.
  2. Enter your electricity rate. Your power bill shows the usage rate in cents per kWh. If you have peak and off-peak rates, use an average, because a fridge runs day and night.
  3. Add the number of units if you run more than one of the same fridge.

The result is an estimate based on the figures you enter. Real running costs change with room temperature, how often the doors open, how full the cabinet is and your actual tariff.

What affects running costs

The biggest factors are whether the fridge has doors or an open front, glass or solid doors, fridge or freezer, its size, and how hot the room gets. For typical costs by type of fridge and eight practical ways to cut your power bill, read our guide to commercial fridge running costs.
