Why vacuum pack
Removing the air slows the spoilage that discolours meat and dries out food, so vacuum-packed food keeps several times longer in the cool room or freezer and avoids freezer burn. Vacuum packing also makes portion control and stock rotation easier, speeds up marinating, and is the first step for sous vide cooking.
Choosing a vacuum packer
- Chamber or external: chamber machines can pack liquids and use cheaper smooth bags. External sealers are smaller and cost less to buy, but they need channel (embossed) bags and cannot pack liquids.
- Chamber size: the chamber must fit your largest bag and product, including its height.
- Seal bars: longer seal bars take wider bags, and two seal bars let you seal two bags per cycle.
- Pump capacity: a bigger pump (measured in m³/h) pulls the vacuum faster for shorter cycle times.
- Benchtop or floor: benchtop models suit cafes and restaurants. Floor models, and double chamber models that let you load one chamber while the other runs, suit butchers and high-volume production.

Vacuum packer FAQs
Are vacuum bags included?
Bags are not normally included. Chamber vacuum packers use smooth vacuum bags, which cost less than the channel (textured) bags needed by external sealers. You can order Orved smooth, cooking and channel bags in packs of 100, and channel bag rolls, from our range above.
Can I vacuum pack liquids?
Yes, with a chamber machine. Because a chamber machine removes the air from the whole chamber, it can seal soups, sauces and marinades without drawing the liquid out of the bag. External sealers, such as the Orved Vacuum Family, Eco Vac and Fast Vac, are not suitable for liquids.
