How to choose a commercial char grill

Width

CookRite char grills come in 300mm, 600mm and 900mm widths. A 300mm grill suits a cafe adding grilled options; 600mm and 900mm models suit steakhouses, pubs and grill restaurants. Fagor Kore 700 chargrills come in single and double widths for heavy-duty lines.

Grill grates

CookRite char grills use heavy-duty black cast iron grills, which hold heat and leave strong char marks. The Fagor Kore 700 series uses mild steel grills that can be removed without tools for cleaning.

Countertop or freestanding?

Countertop models (ending in -C) sit on a bench, stand or refrigerated chef base. Freestanding models (ending in -F) come on their own base, ready to stand on the floor.

Grease management and cleaning

Char grills produce a lot of grease. CookRite grills have a removable drip tray and stainless steel splashback, while Fagor chargrills have a grease collection opening and tray, removable 130mm splash guards and front access to components, with IPX5 water protection.

Safety

CookRite char grills have flame failure protection, standby pilots, piezo ignition and independent burner controls, and come with a 24 month labour and 48 month parts warranty.

Char grill vs hot plate

A char grill cooks over open grates for smoky, flame-grilled flavour and char lines. A hot plate cooks on a flat steel surface, better for eggs, pancakes and smash burgers. Many kitchens run both side by side.

Installation and care

Gas char grills must be installed by a licensed gas fitter, and a char grill line will need an exhaust canopy to remove smoke and grease. Brush the grates during service, empty the drip tray often and clean the burners regularly so they flame evenly.

Anvil grills and presses

We also stock Anvil panini presses with ribbed or flat cast iron plates, a sandwich press, a 600mm electric salamander and an 8 bird chicken rotisserie.
