Types of commercial toasters

  • Conveyor toasters carry bread through heating elements on a belt, so staff can keep loading without watching each slice. They suit cafes, hotel breakfasts and canteens.
  • Vertical bun toasters press the cut face of burger buns against a heated plate as a belt carries them through, caramelising hundreds of bun halves an hour.
  • Toaster grills and salamander toasters have open racks under (and sometimes over) infrared or quartz elements to toast, grill and melt cheese on toasties, open sandwiches and garlic bread.

Choosing a commercial toaster

  • Volume: estimate slices or buns per hour at your busiest time, then choose a toaster with headroom.
  • What you toast: conveyor toasters handle bread, muffins, crumpets and bagels; bun toasters are made for burger buns; toaster grills also melt and brown toppings.
  • Power supply: most benchtop toasters run on a standard 10 amp plug, but larger units need a 15 amp outlet and some salamanders are hard-wired.

Commercial toaster FAQs

What is the difference between a toaster grill and a salamander?

Both cook under radiant heat. A toaster grill is usually a compact benchtop unit for toast and toasties, while a salamander is a larger grill used to brown, gratinate and finish plated dishes. Many of our salamanders are also listed under Commercial Grills.

How many buns can a bun toaster do?

The Benchstar EBT-1400 toasts up to 900 bun halves an hour, or up to 1400 with the optional extended feeder.
