What is a multideck fridge?
A multideck is a tall, wide display cabinet with several tiers of shelving (decks) facing the customer. Multidecks are the backbone of supermarket, convenience store, service station and cafe merchandising: they show a large range of drinks, dairy, deli and packaged food at eye level and keep it at a safe temperature through busy trade.
Glass door or open front?
- Glass door multidecks hold temperature better and use less energy. Frameless and low-E glass keeps the view clear, and self-closing doors shut behind each customer.
- Open multidecks let customers grab product without opening a door, which suits high-turnover drinks. Night blinds pull down over the front after hours to save energy.
- Grab-and-go and promotion cabinets are smaller open displays for cafes, workplaces, deli counters and end-of-aisle promotions.
Choosing a multideck
- Width and doors: two, three and four-door cabinets run from about 1.25 m to 2.6 m wide. Many models are multiplexable, so several units can be joined into one continuous run.
- Temperature: multideck fridges typically hold around -1°C to +5°C for dairy, packed meat and drinks, while multideck freezers hold -18°C to -15°C.
- Ambient rating: supermarket cabinets are usually rated for air-conditioned stores (around 25°C and 60% humidity), so check the rating before installing one near an entrance or in a hot space.
- Power: most multideck fridges run from a standard 10 amp plug; the larger freezers need a 15 amp outlet.

Multideck FAQs
Can multidecks be joined together?
Yes. Many Thermaster DC and OC models are multiplexable, so they can be lined up side by side without a mullion between them for one continuous display.
Should I choose a glass door or open multideck?
Glass doors cost less to run and hold temperature better, so they suit most stores. Open multidecks make it quicker for customers to grab drinks in high-traffic spots, and their night blinds help cut energy use when the store is closed.
