Types of plate warmers
- Plate warmer cabinets are heated stainless steel cupboards that hold stacks of plates on shelves. They suit restaurants, hotels and function venues that plate up large numbers at once.
- Mobile plate lowerators are heated tubes on castors. As plates are taken from the top, the stack rises so the next plate is always within reach, and the unit rolls to wherever plates are needed.
- Drop-in plate lowerators work the same way but are built into a bench or servery counter for a neat, permanent plating station.
Choosing a plate warmer
- Capacity: count the plates you need warm at your busiest service. Cabinets hold 60 or 120 plates, and lowerators hold 60 to 80 plates per tube.
- Plate size: lowerators take plates up to a set diameter, so check your largest plate.
- Mobile or built in: mobile units move between kitchen and function rooms, while drop-in units keep the bench clear.
- Temperature: plates are usually held at 50 to 80°C, warm enough to keep food hot without burning fingers.

Plate warmer FAQs
What is a plate lowerator?
A plate lowerator is a heated tube that holds a stack of plates. As each plate is taken from the top, the stack rises to keep the next plate at the same height, so staff can plate up quickly.
Do plate warmers need special power?
No. All the Elementry plate warmers and lowerators in this range plug into a standard 10 amp power point.
