Types of coolroom shelving

  • Poly shelving has vented polymer shelf plates on coated steel posts. The plates lift out and can go through a dishwasher, and the shelving won't rust or go mouldy.
  • Plasticised wire shelving has steel wire shelves with a black plastic coating that resists rust in cold, damp rooms. Open wire lets cold air circulate around stock.

Choosing shelving

  • Measure the room: check width, depth and ceiling height, and leave space for door swing and evaporator fans.
  • Depth: around 455mm deep suits most boxes and crates. 610mm deep holds bigger cartons and full-size trays.
  • Load: check the weight each shelf can hold if you store drinks, kegs or bulk goods.
  • Temperature: make sure the shelving is rated for freezer use if it is going in a freezer room.
