Why stainless steel benches?

Stainless steel is the standard for commercial kitchen benches because it is non-porous, does not rust, will not absorb food or smells, and stands up to hot pans, heavy equipment and daily sanitising. Food safety rules require food contact surfaces that can be effectively cleaned, and a stainless bench is the easiest way to meet that.

How to choose a stainless steel bench

Width and depth

Mixrite work benches come in widths from 600mm to 2400mm in 300mm steps, in two depths: 600mm, which suits most kitchens and walls, and 700mm, which gives more working room and matches many under bench fridges. Narrow 300mm (WTS703B) and 450mm (WTS745B) benches fill awkward gaps between equipment.

Flat top or splashback?

A flat top bench (the WTS range) can be used as an island or against a wall. A bench with a rear splashback (the WTS...B range) stops spills running down the wall behind it, which is the better choice for prep areas against a wall. Corner benches with splashback (WTCS6B and WTCS7B) turn a run of benches around a corner neatly.

Undershelf and legs

Our splashback benches come with a solid stainless steel undershelf for storage, round stainless steel legs with adjustable feet for uneven floors, and a 900mm working height. Replacement or additional undershelves, castor legs and disk feet are available separately.

Weight and equipment

If the bench will carry heavy equipment like a mixer, slicer or countertop oven, choose a deeper bench and keep the load spread evenly. For hot cooking equipment, a dedicated equipment stand or a chef base is usually better.

Planning your bench layout

  • Measure the full wall run, then combine bench widths to fill it.
  • Allow for doors, power points and plumbing.
  • Match the bench depth to equipment beside it, like under bench fridges and dishwashers.
  • Add wall shelves or over-shelves above to make use of the wall space.

Caring for stainless steel

Clean with warm soapy water or a stainless steel cleaner and a soft cloth, wiping with the grain. Avoid steel wool and bleach-based cleaners, which can scratch or stain the surface, and rinse off any chemical sanitiser as directed on its label.

Modular Systems benches

We also stock the Modular Systems range from FED. Premium /A workbenches are all 304 grade stainless steel, with a benchtop lined with XPS board and reinforced underneath, in 600mm and 700mm depths up to 2400mm wide, with or without a 150mm splashback. Economic benches pair a 304 grade stainless steel top with galvanised legs and undershelf, from 300mm wide. The range also includes mobile benches on castors, corner benches, benches with drawers, waste collector benches and infill benches that line up with Gasmax cooking equipment.

Stainless steel bench FAQs

What height are commercial benches?

Our Mixrite benches have a 900mm working height, the standard for commercial kitchens, with adjustable feet to level them on uneven floors.

What depth bench should I choose?

600mm suits most kitchens and leaves more floor space. Choose 700mm if you need more working room or want the bench to line up with 700mm deep under bench fridges and freezers.

Do you deliver Australia-wide?

Yes. We deliver to every state by tailgate truck. Standard delivery is to your door.
