The Santos #50CX is a centrifugal juicer for fresh fruit and vegetable juices such as apple, carrot, ginger, beetroot and cucumber. It juices continuously and ejects the pulp automatically, giving over 100 litres an hour from an 800 W motor, which suits cafes, bars, restaurants, hotels and health food stores. It is the compact model of the pair: the #68X has a 1300 W motor, over 140 litres an hour and a stainless steel cover for heavier juice bar use.

Good to know before you buy:

• Power: plugs into a standard 10 amp power point.
• Filter baskets: Santos also makes a basket with 0.8 mm holes (ref 50200B) for fibrous ingredients such as pineapple and ginger. Ask us if you need one.
• Delivery: sent by courier. Check doorways and bench space for a 260 x 470 x 450 mm unit, about 14.5 kg.

Common questions:

Can I use it at the front counter?
Yes. Santos rates it at 65 dBA and says it is quiet enough to use in front of customers, so you can juice to order where people can see it.

Do I need to cut the fruit first?
Not for apples. Santos says whole apples fit through the 79.5 mm chute, which saves prep time when you are busy.

Where does the pulp go?
It is thrown out of the basket into a 7.5 litre pulp container while you juice, so you can keep feeding fruit without stopping to clear it. Empty the container when it fills.
