The Santos #59 is an on-demand espresso grinder that grinds and doses 1 or 2 espressos straight into the portafilter as soon as it detects the filter holder. The integrated LCD display lets you set doses, check statistics and adjust brightness. It suits cafes and restaurants pulling steady espresso volumes; compared with the #55BFK it adds the LCD display and a pulse button, and the #67 goes further with a variable speed brushless motor and saved recipes.

Good to know before you buy:

• Power: plugs into a standard 10 amp power point.
• Colour: Sammic also lists the #59 in white. Ask us if you would prefer the white version.
• Delivery: sent by courier. Check doorways and bench space for a 198 x 352 x 540 mm unit, about 15 kg.

Common questions:

Does it have a tamper?
Santos's spec sheet shows a tamper for the #59 in 53 mm, 55 mm and 57 mm sizes, but Sammic's price list does not mention one. Ask us to confirm what comes in the box and that it suits your coffee machine's filter size.

Does it hold ground coffee?
No. There is no dispenser, so the beans are ground on demand and every dose is fresh.

How fast is it in a rush?
Santos says it dispenses a 7 g dose in less than one second, so staff are not left waiting at the grinder between shots.
