With flat cast iron plates top and bottom, the Anvil TSS2001 is a single panini press that toasts evenly across the whole surface, ideal for toasted sandwiches, wraps and flatbreads. The nanocoated plates give a 340 x 225mm cooking area, the spring-loaded top plate balances itself on thick or thin fillings, and heat is thermostatically controlled up to 300°C. It is the flat-plate twin of the ribbed-top TSS2000.

Good to know before you buy:

• Clearance: the lid opens to a height of 520mm. Make sure there's room under shelves or cupboards.
• Power: runs on 240V power, rated at 2.2 kW. ICE doesn't list a 15 A requirement for this single model.
• Cleaning: the drip tray is removable, so empty and wipe it at the end of each day.

Common questions:

What's the difference from the TSS2000?
Only the top plate. The TSS2001 has a flat top plate; the TSS2000 has a ribbed top for grill marks.

It runs on 240V and is rated at 2.2 kW. ICE doesn't list a 15 A rating for it, unlike the double TSS3001.

Warranty: 12 months, back to base, through ICE, Anvil's Australian distributor. Back to base means that if a warranty fault comes up, the unit is returned to ICE to be assessed, rather than being looked at on site.
